Get to Know Me

I spent much of my career in the military. My wife is an elementary school teacher, and has an enthusiasm for kids that rubbed off on me, and I went into medicine because I wanted my work to benefit people directly as well. I started out as a general pediatrician, and specialized in pathology. My field gives me plenty of chances to improve care for children.

Why I Treat Children

I started out as a general pediatrician and enjoyed working directly with children and families. Today, as a pathologist I’m in a more behind-the-scenes role – I still enjoy being part of a medical team that improves lives for children.

What I'm Passionate About

Medical care should be delivered as seamlessly as possible, and that includes lab work. We can learn a lot from patients and their families. By asking the right questions, we can continuously improve the scientific processes of lab work – so it’s easier for patients, and doctors receive vital information quickly and reliably.

How I Try to Make A Difference

I think it’s important to keep patients and families at the center of everything we do. In the lab, I try to make things as comfortable and convenient as I can. I also design our techniques to get important results to doctors quickly, so they can provide better care based on information they need to make treatment decisions.

Research Activities

I’m interested in researching medical and microbiological issues as well as investigating unexpected deaths that have an infectious cause. This information adds to our scientific knowledge and has potential to improve medical care in the future.
