David C. Brousseau, MD, MS, is the Pediatrician-in-Chief, Chair of Pediatrics and Director of Research at Nemours Children’s Health, Delaware Valley. Through his roles, Dr. Brousseau serves as the leader for the Department of Pediatrics across all missions: clinical, education, research, quality, and health equity and leads all research efforts across all departments in the Delaware Valley.
Dr. Brousseau’s research and educational expertise allow him to elevate our academic excellence, concentrating on educating the next generation of physicians and developing and guiding research programs. He works to promote clinical growth and partnerships throughout the Delaware Valley. Dr. Brousseau works with hospital leadership to facilitate continuous improvement in quality and safety with a focus on outcomes.
Before joining Nemours Children’s, Dr. Brousseau was Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin/Children’s Wisconsin. He also served as Vice Chair of Finance and Clinical Operations for the Department of Pediatrics, Assistant Dean for Scholarly Activities for the medical school and Patient Centered Research Unit Leader for the Children’s Research Institute at Children’s Wisconsin.
Dr. Brousseau is board-certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. His primary research focus is on sickle cell disease, including health services research, implementation science and clinical trials aimed at improving the disparate care these children receive. He has been continuously federally funded for more than 15 years and has mentored multiple fellows and junior faculty to federal funding.
Dr. Brousseau has received many professional awards. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Academic Pediatric Association, American Society of Hematology, American Pediatric Society and a standing member of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) study section. He also serves as a reviewer for more than a dozen prestigious journals including JAMA, Pediatrics, Academic Pediatrics and Annals of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Brousseau received his Bachelor of Arts and Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Virginia and his Master of Science from Brown University. He also completed the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard University, Harvard’s alternative to an executive MBA.
