Get to Know Me
Dr. Elizabeth O’Donnell is a neonatologist at duPont Hospital for Children and education coordinator for the joint fellowship program with Sidney Kimmel Medical College and Christiana Care Health System. She is a leader for the Fellows’ Organization and a member of the hospital’s Graduate Medical Education Committee.
Why I Treat Children
Caring for children is a humbling honor and privilege. Parents place what they hold most dearly to them in our care, fully and willingly. In neonatology, we get the opportunity to care for children at a most vulnerable time. We are the first line of support in a life-altering, emotional time.
What I'm Passionate About
I am passionate about advocating for the health and safety of children — both my own patients and, through my work with the American Academy of Pediatrics, all children. I’m also passionate about educating students, residents, fellows and the families of all my patients.
How I Try to Make A Difference
I am part of a number of committees at the hospital, which allows me to help and improve the care we deliver within my organization. I also am on the TinyBabyCommittee of the ChristianaCareHospitalSystem, working to provide the utmost care at the time most needed and to facilitate the transfer from their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to ours when needed. In addition, I try to participate in different trips, as part of the Global Health programs, to provide medical care in other countries such as Rwanda and Haiti.
