Nemours Children’s Diabetes Centers of Excellence are recognized by the American Diabetes Association for the highest level of medical care, education and support for kids and families.
Our specialists treat all types of diabetes in children, including those related to other conditions, like cystic fibrosis. We’re also researchers, actively looking for ways to reverse and prevent diabetes and help kids live better.
In addition to expert medical services, our team offers certified diabetes education, counseling and care for the whole family. We connect you to community resources, special events and camps, and much more.
Our goal is for your child to thrive in school, sports and fun with friends. We work to keep them healthy today, and for years to come.
Services We Offer for Diabetes in Kids
Our Nemours board-certified pediatric endocrinologists are specially trained in treating type 1 diabetes (sometimes called “juvenile diabetes”) — the most common condition we treat. We also see kids with type 2 diabetes and maturity onset diabetes of youth, a rare genetic form of the disease.
Our full diabetes services, which may vary depending on the condition or location, may include:
- blood sugar level monitoring (through glucose meters, continuous glucose monitoring)
- certified diabetes education (support from our experts to help you and your child learn about and manage their condition)
- continuous glucose monitoring therapy (to provide real-time blood sugar readings every few minutes)
- hormonal deficiency tests (to check for hormone imbalances or issues)
- insulin pump therapy and education (required classes on starting and using pump therapy)
- nutrition assessment and therapy (education led by registered dietitians on food and drink choices to help manage diabetes)
- transitioning teens with diabetes (so they can advocate for themselves and manage their own care)

Florida Highlights
We’re a leader in Central Florida in providing patients with the latest technology. More than 30 percent of our patients with diabetes are treated with insulin pumps and/or continuous glucose monitoring sensors.
We will help you with links to camps and community support for children with diabetes.
We’re the only diabetes program in Northeast Florida solely dedicated to kids. We provide care with our partner and neighbor Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

Our Research and Clinical Trials
Nemours is at the forefront of pediatric research. We participate in type 1 diabetes TrialNet, an international network of researchers. We’re also working to reverse the rise of type 2 diabetes, prevent childhood obesity and improve testing. Your child may have access to clinical trials and care not available everywhere.
