Erase the Letter

4-Year-Olds | Letter Knowledge

Prep: 2–3 Minutes | Activity Time: 5–10 Minutes

Young kids love to make things disappear. Let your child find and then erase the letters you name as you chant: “I see the letter __ today. Can you make it go away?”

  • Whiteboard
  • Dry erase markers
  • Eraser

Step 1: On a whiteboard, write 8 to 10 random letters, using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters.

Step 2: Give your child the eraser and ask him to erase the letters you name as you say the chant:

“I see the letter ___ today. Can you make it go away?”

Step 3: Continue until all the letters on the board have disappeared.

Use the letters in your child’s first name. Randomly write these letters on the whiteboard and follow steps 2 and 3 above.

Add more letters to the whiteboard as your child becomes more skilled at finding them.
