Baby Obstacle Course

6 to 11 Months | Beginning Writing

Prep: 5 Minutes | Activity Time: 5–7 Minutes

If your baby has started to scoot or crawl, he may enjoy the challenge of having to navigate over or around obstacles. This is a fun way to develop motor skills.

  • Safe objects to place on the floor for your baby to scoot around or crawl over
    • Pillows
    • Sofa cushions
    • Large stuffed animal
    • Rolled-up towel, blanket or quilt
  • Favorite toys

Step 1: When your baby is alert and playful, place him on the floor to explore and play.

Step 2: Place an obstacle in front of him and a favorite toy on the other side.

Step 3: Watch to see if he chooses to crawl over the top or to move around the obstacle.

Step 4: If your baby enjoys the challenge, place other obstacles for him to work around.

Step 5: Describe what you observe your baby doing.
