Interventional Radiology
Image-Guided Therapy for Diagnosis and Treatment
Interventional radiology (IR) helps us treat children without surgery.
A variety of imaging tools including ultrasound, CT scans, and moving X-rays called fluoroscopy take detailed pictures inside the body. Interventional radiologists then use small instruments to diagnose and give treatment.
This is also called image-guided therapy. We use it to treat many childhood conditions, including cancer, blood clots and problems with eating.
Kids benefit from image-guided therapy because they often spend less time in the hospital and heal more quickly.
With teams in both Delaware and Florida, we have one of the largest IR programs in the country. We see more children and have more experience than many other programs.
We work with many specialties at Nemours Children's, and every day, we see kids get better.

We treat liver tumors in children with an image-guided procedure known as Y90.This treatment could offer some kids with liver tumors a cure. It may help others feel better without having to get more chemotherapy that could cause side effects.
We’re known in the field of radiology. Nemours doctors are active in the largest national societies for radiology. This includes the American College of Radiology, the Society for Pediatric Radiology and the Society of Interventional Radiology.
